SEASON 2 EPISODE 16 – ALIENS AMONG US

In this one Sheriff Stone comes to Scooby and the gang desperate to find out why aliens have returned to earth. He even mentions how desperate he is because he turned to them in the first place. The gang enlists Velma’s mom for help. She is super into aliens and is actually about as opposite from Velma as you can get. Can this unlikely group find the reason Sheriff Bronson seems to be losing his mind?

I think it’s awesome that this episode references BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS and an idea expounded upon in the Legendary Monster Cinematic Universe (“Hollow Earth”). There is even a nod to the “Shire” from LORD OF THE RINGS. This is also one of the few episodes where Shaggy, Scooby, and Velma go off to find clues without Fred or Daphne being involved.

Fact – Daphne’s dad got rid of the dining room table so he could put a car in there.

Second Fact – The Mystery Machine has a “road glue” gun and a “net trap” located in the section where the spare tire would be on the front of the van.

Oddity – In one scene Velma is driving the Mystery Machine. Shaggy, Scooby, and her pick up Fred and Daphne, but in the next frame, Fred is already back in the driver seat. Seems like in a high-speed chase situation you wouldn’t take time to switch seats since it seems like anyone in the gang can drive the Mystery Machine including Scooby-Doo (CAMP SCARE).

Best Line – You have to help me keep my brain. – Sheriff Stone.

Second Best Line – We’re in the middle of a full-scale galactic war, and the earth is the prize! – Sheriff Stone.

This is another episode where the mystery is solved pretty fast to make room for the overall season story arc, but it works. The explanation for why the villains were doing what they were doing is a little shaky but this is still a pretty interesting episode and one where almost nothing is what it seems.
