SCOOBY-DOO MYSTERY INCORPORATED :
SEASON 2 EPISODE 17 – THE HORRIBLE HERD

In this one, Pericles (an evil owl from a different incarnation of Mystery Incorporated) is growing tired of Scooby and the gang so he of course resorts to the most logical way to get rid of them. That’s right, it’s a freakin herd of genetically mutated skull cattle. Can Scooby-Doo and the gang overcome one of the most horrible menaces they have faced yet? Has Mr. E. finally had enough with his once-beloved pet owl gone mad?
Fact – The Mystery machine in this series has boosters. They don’t say when the gang had them put in, but I am guessing they weren’t in the Mystery Machine during the SECRET OF THE GHOST RIG episode.
Second Fact – Mayor Nettles was once in the air force as a pilot. This explains why she can fly a helicopter.
Oddity – The ending of this episode is pretty strange in regards to its lack of having a solid resolution. I don’t want to give away what happened but it kind of goes against the idea that Pericles had any control over his own herd of genetically mutated skull cattle.
Best Line – I don’t know, I think my plan of letting the herd enslave humanity is pretty good. – Sheriff Stone
Second Best Line – A herd of genetically engineered skull cattle is going to eat Crystal Cove! - Daphne
Art-wise this is one of the best episodes of the season thus far. They used some computer graphics on the bee-cows and some of the little details even down to the dust coming up from the floor during the gang's visit to the “Farmers Barrel Of Crackerness”.
The scale of this episode and increased attention to the artwork make it feel more like it could have been leveraged into a movie if it wasn’t so tied into the season’s main story arc. Even the scale of the danger involved kind of makes this feel like it could have been a season finale for this show.
This one gets a 6 out of 7. It could have been perfect if they had tied up a loose end in the script.
