JASON X (2001)

JASON X (2001)

Tagline: This Halloween, meet the perfect 10 in terror!

(Horror, Sci-Fi, Cryostasis) [R]

Hey, you're lucky you weren't alive during the Microsoft conflict. Hell, we were beating each other with our own severed limbs.

It seems like when you have either, 1 run out of ideas, or 2 are so desperate to do something different, you break down and have your horror franchise moved into outer space. I would not be surprised at all if we eventually see Chucky in space. Anyway, Jason is killed right away (again), frozen for research, and of course, poked and prodded hundreds of years later for his regenerative properties. It doesn’t take long before the fallacy of this idea comes to life and Jason is back jacking up as many teens and entrepreneurs as he can find. This time around he will face futuristic weapons and an android before he himself is upgraded.

I oddly really dug this one. As much as I had to later dismiss that it even occurred to enjoy FREDDY VS JASON because FREDDY VS JASON just ignores this movie altogether.

We get some great cheesiness and some of the best special effects in the entire series. Fans however thought otherwise and in spite of its budget and effort this movie wasn’t a huge hit. I also really liked the casting in this, we get everyone from Peter Mensah (Sparticus) to Melyssa Ade who has been doing mostly TV stuff ever since.

Unlike the last installment, this one doesn’t spend time dwelling on the past or getting back to the idiotic demon worm we saw in JASON GOES TO HELL and fortunately, a little comedy is also thrown in.

For thinking out of the box and taking what I thought was the worst idea known to man in a pretty good direction I have to give JASON X a solid 5 out of 7.
