CURSED (2005)
So far the 2000’s are
doing “okay” in the werewolf movie department. CURSED (although I guess people
didn’t love it) actually restored my faith in the well being of werewolf films
at a time where there just wasn’t much coming out (since then we have had
WEREWOLF THE BEAST AMONG US, THE WOLFMAN, RED RIDING HOOD, and UNDERWORLD AWAKENING
so it does not appear the werewolf movie is dead.) Anyway. this one starts out
with a brother and sister getting in a wreck, attempting to help someone and
both winding up getting bitten by a werewolf. This thing reels itself in very
close to the 90’s style horror I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER and THE FACULTY, but never really gets to
that level script wise.
What the film does do is
feature Joshua Jackson in a rare villain role and plays to the comedy/action/horror
fan. Jesse Eisenberg (ZOMBIELAND) plays one of the lead roles and is pretty
funny in doing so but don't expect any drop to the floor laughing your head off
moments. Fans of Christina Ricci might want to check this out as well, it’s a
bit of a different role for her. The movie stating that werewolves are from
hell didn't help the rating. Everyone knows that werewolves are from Phoenix.
I also have to commend
Judy Greer in this who just freaks the freak out and it makes for some of the
best stuff in this movie (she also plays Cheryl on ARCHER).
The effects in this are
decent for CGI, but not the quality over the top stuff we see in the UNDERWOLRD
series or anything just about that came out in the 80’s. I like the story line
and the dog…the dog is awesome. Over the past year or so this one has grown on
me a bit more.
