WEREWOLF : THE BEAST
AMONG US (2012)
Wound up finding this in a RED BOX and I have to say it is
not terrible by any means. This one takes place in the 19th century
and is about a group of hunters that decide enough is enough when a beast
starts slaughtering a small town. The apprentice of a doctor decides to join
them and as they say…the hunt is on. Okay for this review I will start off with
the lows because there is some stuff about this thing that just bugged the crap
out of me. First off, the amount of dead bodies they felt the need to show.
Dang, we get it, this werewolf kills everything. This movie goes overboard to
try and be as gory as it can and still cram it into the story. I wasn’t a fan
to say the least. Focus your budget on the transformation and the rest of the
effects, not how many random bodies you can pile on to a wooden cart. You can
still make a scary werewolf movie without goring it out. We do get some CGI,
but it’s not over the top terrible so I forgive it. Unfortunately there is also
some terrible acting at times.
On the good side, the sets are great and only a
few things feel out of place. There are some standout performances Ed Quinn
(THE CALLER, EUREKA) is strong and we also have an Ana Ularu sighting as Kazia
in this. You may also remember her from ANACONDAS : TRAIL OF BLOOD. She is one
of those talented actresses that never seems to be in anything that gets a lot
of notice. Overall this is good, but it is not UNIVERSAL great. You would think
this major studio would have done a lot more to get this to a theater near you. I give it a 4 out
of 7.
