SCOOBY-DOO MYSTERY INCORPORATED : SEASON 2 EPISODE 6 – ART OF DARKNESS!

SCOOBY-DOO MYSTERY INCORPORATED :

SEASON 2 EPISODE 6 –  ART OF DARKNESS!

[Animation, Adventure, Comedy]

In this one an art gallery comes to town and one of the pieces of artwork attacks the lead singer of the band that was playing at the gallery. She gets turned into a frigid work of art (that resembles gold)…so there’s that. Mayor Nettles (voiced by Kate Higgins) enlists the help of Mystery Incorporated to solve the mystery of what the heck is happening.

This episode gives nods to Andy Warhol (via the character Randy Warsaw) and I think Stevie Nicks (given the vocal sound of the emo band playing at the beginning of the episode). Art and design wise this is the best episode of the season so far. This crazy piece of artwork is mostly done in CGI and it’s pretty freakin great. There is also a scene with a giant cheese mouse which is just incredible.

In the overall arching mystery for the season, Fred's real parents have come back into his life in the past few episodes. This particular episode has them also but only for a few seconds.

Fact – Velma thinks she looks hot “blurry” when she takes her glasses off. She spends a large part of this episode without her glasses on.

Second Fact – It’s pretty uncommon for anyone to think Daphne is ugly in this series, but Randy Warsaw (the main art exhibitor in this episode) is unimpressed with her and doesn’t want her to even fake being part of his exhibit.

Third Fact – Shaggy’s favorite band is the Kaiser Wursts. Their sound offends Scooby-Doo.

Oddity –  There is an entire sequence in this episode where there is a live cow in the back of the Mystery Machine. Fred juggles shirtless with a fish on his head and Scooby is the lead singer of an emo-band for a night.

Best Line –It also keeps my head warm right in the center, keeping my brains all toasty – Sheriff Stone.

This episode has probably one of the greatest villains of any season just in the sense of how it looks. The storyline is pretty fun and this thing is just loaded with creativity. For me, this one is a 7 out of 7, probably in my top 2 or 3 episodes of season 2.
