GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS (2019)
Tagline: Prepare To Throw Down
(Adventure, Kaiju, Let Them Fight!) [PG-13]
In this one the Kaiju or “Titans” as they are called in the
movie have been largely discovered by the Kaiju research and military division
of the government known as Monarch. Each Kaiju is monitored and contained when
possible. Godzilla is still on the loose but deemed ‘not” a threat by most.
Just as Monarch is about to get shut down by the suits in DC, and the “Titans”
destroyed. An echo-terrorist group with
the aid of a Monarch agent decides to start releasing the Kaiju 1 by 1 to wreak
havoc on the world. That’s a stupid plan and it doesn’t take long before
everyone is like “damn, we are pretty stupid”. Now it’s up to Godzilla to
restore balance… but is it too late?
If you have seen the previews you know Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah are in this movie, but we get some other pretty freakin rad surprises in this epic monster mash.

So what about the dreaded balance issue? Too many monsters? Too much human story? I think this movie had a perfect balance of both. The monster fights were over the freakin top and a lot more was going on than in the 2014 installment in the series. I did like the human story in this and it was loaded with character and the overall lore this franchise needs to move forward. There are some deep memorable human moments in the film, several of them. The motives in the human story were also extremely impressive even borderline real world. Yes you can throw away the human story in ANY Godzilla movie. If you have watched very many, you know that is the case. Yet there are more Godzilla movies than there are in any other franchise. I wonder why that is? It's because Godzilla is the freakin star. He is the reason people go see these movies. Having said that casting STRANGER THINGS actress Millie Bobby Brown , SUPER 8 actor Kyle Chandler and bringing back the best actors (Ken Wantanabe and Sally Hawkins for example) and actresses from GODZILLA 2014 were superb moves. All that signaled this wasn’t not just going to be a gigantic romp, but a masterpiece. Everything from the set design, lighting, cinematography, and kaiju designs are phenomenal. This movie actually made me like Mothra, and I have never thought Mothra was cool.
I have read a few I guess "fair" critiques based
in “what I would have done” land, but this damn movie is freakin EPIC. Beyond
mind-blowing. Beyond anything I could have expected. What a love letter to
brand new Godzilla fans and those of us who have been here for the long haul.
Didn't have an issue with it dragging or anything like that. It was perfectly freakin
well-paced. If anything they could have actually slowed the pacing just a bit.
If you read my reviews you know I really loved 2014, for me
it was a 7 out of 7. BUT...every Godzilla movie that has come out before this
one, is 2 slices of Carl Buddig meat on some dry bread.....compared to Godzilla
King Of The Monsters. The new movie is a freakin high class 17 course meal.

I've seen this 3 times in the theaters now. Holy cow, freakin epic.
