FRIDAY THE 13TH : THE FINAL CHAPTER (1984)

FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER (1984)

Tagline: Three times you have felt the terror, known the madness, lived the horror. But this is the one you've been screaming for. Because Friday, April 13th will be Jason's unlucky day.

(Horror, Thriller, Not Actually The Final Anything) [R]

Get lost, Axel. I'm busy. I've had more than enough of you for one night.

Aka Friday The 13th Part IV. As alluded to in the category line, this isn't the final anything, but the order of the films does get a little jacked out later in the series. For example, JASON X hasn’t even happened yet, it’s like predicting the future n stuff (but FREDDY VS JASON which came out after JASON X takes place in modern times). If you read my reviews a lot you may know that I am a huge fan of 1984. There were just a ton of great movies coming out that year. Apparently, Robert Zemeckis liked 1984 so much, that he said “Wait, that dude playing Jimmy in FRIDAY THE 13TH THE FINAL CHAPTER should be Marty McFly’s dad!!!”

This installment picks right up where part III left off. Jason doesn’t like people dragging him around in ambulances, so he pretty much immediately goes after the first two people he thinks might have been trying to have sex (and then many others) before heading back to where the heck ever.

Reasons this one rocked.

1) Corey Feldman as Tommy. In case anyone was questioning that he could act, that all probably stopped after this.

2) Tommy’s creations. His room is what you would want if you were going to make any monster movie.

3) Cheesy 80’s music, self explanatory.

4) Don’t miss Jimmy’s dance scene, holy freakin cow.

5) The clothing choices. This movie for some reason really says, “80’s pants”.

6) Cheese puff structures!

7) Guys looking at matches!!

8) The horror of it all.

Problems. Out of all the movies, the lead actress in this one is probably the least convincing of all of them. They did make up for it in some ways by picking up attractive secondary characters who could also act, but having a strong female lead is critical. Also much like part III, I am not too crazy about the fact that this one also strayed so seemingly far from the actual camp. Part III really didn’t give us enough to reason out, why the heck Jason is so attracted to this area (wherever it is)? The title is also stupid if that wasn't clear. Even if you thought this was the final chapter, never never tell your fans that.

THE FINAL CHAPTER is definitely in the TOP 4 installments of this entire franchise. It also features one of the most memorable ending sequences. Not as horrifying as part II, but an absolute must-see for horror fans. I give this one a 5 out of 7.
