FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3 (1982)

Oh, they said they were going skinny-dipping. I'm not skinny enough.
When this movie came out,
a lot of part 3’s of movies were trying to do 3D. However when they did 3D back
then you actually got a pretty good effect when things were supposed to be
coming out of the screen, only with fewer color variations. The DVD release of this
does come in 3D and 2D versions, but 3D is pretty fun if you've got a decent TV.
Anyway, Jason ends up with a deep wound to the shoulder at the end of
part II but is miraculously fast at healing so, he is back for more in this
one. I do have a couple issues with this movie as another group of teens (and a
bit older), descend on where? Umm, not really sure. This is apparently the Camp
Crystal Lake area, but features none of the structures we saw in the first and
second installments?
Because the movie was in 3D Paramount went out of its way to make sure that we got an overabundance of things protruding towards the camera to take advantage of the 3D aspect. A lot of people will tell you this is a gimmick, but no, they are wrong. It’s called knowing your movie is 3D and purposely taking advantage of that. Much like in part II the actors and actresses in this movie are not all that bad. This isn’t to say there are not some really corny exceptions.
A lot of fans to this day, say this is the best of the entire series. There are several reasons for this even though I disagree. The most prolific horror slasher of all time gets his trademark hockey mask in this film. No, it's not Michael Myers, sorry, that series doesn't match up to this one. The decision was so sound that we actually got 9 more movies involving Jason after this one came out.

Oddities: Chris
retells an encounter with Jason dragging her around the forest, but it’s
pretty much just brushed off by her parents and she ends up back in her own
bed after blacking out? What? That doesn’t happen unless you are wearing
something that used to belong to his mom right? (see FRIDAY THE 13TH
PART II and FRIDAY THE 13TH 2009).
Jason has like, freakishly good aim with spear guns.
Apparently, none of the crew wanted to re-apply the makeup for Jason during a lighting check, so they used a hockey mask for the test. The mask was later modified to fit the actor's head and became the most recognized object for the rest of the entire series.
I am not going to come out and say that Dana Kimmell was the best female lead in the series, but she does a decent enough job to make the role both credible and campy.

13TH PART III a 4 out of 7. Skipping the “mask movie” is simply not
okay for fans of the series.
