SCOOBY-DOO MYSTERY INCORPORATED : SEASON 2 EPISODE 11 – THE MIDNIGHT ZONE

SCOOBY-DOO MYSTERY INCORPORATED :

SEASON 2 EPISODE 11 –  THE MIDNIGHT ZONE

[Animation, Adventure, Comedy]

In this one, Angel Dynamite (Cassidy Williams), is working at K-GHOUL radio to not only spin records but get the truth out about Crystal Cove. She is attacked by World War II-era deep-sea robots and her studio is trashed. In the larger arc mystery that covers 2 full seasons, Cassidy is part of the original “Mystery Incorporated” that was trying to locate all the panels (pieces) of the Planispheric disc. Scooby-Doo and the gang show up to help Cassidy in spite of the falling out they had near the end of Season 1. Why are these robots attacking her and who doesn’t want the truth out?

This episode does a good job of repairing the relationship between Cassidy and the gang but also hints at the restoration of Fred and Daphne’s relationship. I mean, they have been friends for several episodes now, but they seem to be headed more towards the relationship they had.

There are a ton of great things about this episode but the thing that stands out to me the most is the development of Cassidy’s character. We already knew she was awesome, but she’s also a bad a-s and knows how to handle several types of weapons as well as being able to kick your teeth in if she has too. To be honest, I would almost rather have Cassidy around more than someone like Blue Falcon.

Fact – When Fred sees a giant ghost head in the sky he considers it a welcome mat to see whatever it is that ghost head is telling him to stay away from.

Second Fact – There is a seal in Crystal Cove also named “Scooby”. The seal Scooby first appeared in “Moby Dick and Mighty Mightor”, a cartoon from 1967. So that means Scooby the seal was actually a character before Scooby the dog. I think the show tries to avoid mentioning this when Shaggy says that Scooby is “old Scooby”. He actually is the younger of the two regarding “first appearance date”

Third Fact – Dee Bradley Baker does the voice for 2 kids, Tom and Tub in this as well as the voice of a Robot Head.

The Rare Fourth Fact - The Midnight Zone has the idea of being so deep in the ocean that it’s pitch black. Typically this can happen around between one and four kilometers of depth.

Best Line – Like robots and curses…no thanks! - Shaggy

This is not your typical Scooby-Doo episode but the fact that it’s out of the box makes it a really fun watch including robots and flying ghost heads, and more. I also liked the nod to “SEALAB 2020” an old Hanna-Barbara show that only ran for 13 episodes.

This one gets a solid 6 out of 7 even though it’s another one of those episodes with no resolution.
