JURASSIC HUNT (2021)

In this one, an agent named Parker that works for a secret agency joins a group of hunters in an excursion to kill genetically created dinosaurs for fun. Once the owner of the “hunters resort” finds out she’s basically a spy trying to end the existence of this facility, he sends in a team to take her out. Meanwhile, everyone involved has severely underestimated how dangerous these genetic nightmares can be. Will anyone make it out alive?
Okay, first off, do not walk into this movie expecting a masterpiece. Expect a silly, over the top poorly acted romp through the countryside. Just look at the cast list, realize you don’t know anyone on it so that you can fully embrace this movie isn’t going to be anywhere near as good as its poster.
Soundtrack wise this movie isn’t all bad. We also get a score that works for this type of movie and for something almost completely CGI-driven, it’s not absolutely horrible. No – this isn’t JURASSIC PARK or anything near that quality, but it’s also nowhere near as bad as some of the CGI crap out there. People doing reviews for this thing are saying that, simply haven’t watched the number of b-movies it takes to make that assessment. Having said that, I am kind of shocked this was LIONSGATE distributing it, typically they work with many companies putting out much higher quality.
I mentioned the acting and sadly there just isn’t much to go on here. Courtney Loggins as far as I can tell was only in 1 other project and that was a short film. To her credit, she actually isn’t the worst character or actor in this movie. Joston Theney (who plays Lindon the owner of the hunting facility) does have some acting in his background mostly in b-movies, but also has produced and directed some films, is decent in this. Tarkan Dospil (probably best known for DRAGON SOLDIERS) also does okay. He was also in a few other b-movies (one with Joston Theney). Antuone Torbert plays a big-time jerk in this movie named Blackhawk, but he’s probably the best actor in this and this dude has a bright future. He was also in DRAGON SOLDIERS and has 17 acting credits to his name with 3 projects in production. Actually now looking at this cast a bit more, it looks like at least 4 (maybe more) of the actors in this were also in DRAGON SOLDIERS.
There are at least a few “DEEP BLUE SEA” surprise moments in this as well as a few bits of humor, but the script does lack charm and I really didn’t find myself rooting for the characters all that much. However, when I measure this thing I am looking at its competitive market mostly. Trashy, poorly done, cheap, nonsense b-movies. In that arena, it’s above average.
For those reasons, I have to give this a 4 out of 7. It’s about what I would expect from a b-movie involving dinosaurs. It’s several notches better than JURASSIC GALAXY.
