SCOOBY-DOO! MYSTERY INCORPORATED : SEASON 2 EPISODE 21 – THE MAN IN THE MIRROR

SCOOBY-DOO! MYSTERY INCORPORATED :

SEASON 2 EPISODE 21 –  THE MAN IN THE MIRROR

[Animation, Adventure, Comedy]

In this one, Fred gets sucked into a mirror when the gang decides to investigate a potentially haunted house at the request of Mayor Nettles. Fred is not in an apocalyptic nightmare scenario and a doppelganger Fred joins with the gang. They almost immediately suspect something is up.

Artistically this episode is a rough one. The backgrounds in a lot of the scenes look mailed in and the episode feels almost completely ripped off from a TWILIGHT ZONE. Normally I think this is a plus, but the dialog is rough and for me, this is just a plain, uninteresting episode. Even more problematic is how Velma has to resolve the clues the real Fred left on the other side of the mirror. Even weirder is that they even needed clues since the doppelganger was acting so creepy.

The two main criminals and what they did to carry out their plot is definitely one of the more insane ones and almost lacks so much credibility that it ruins the episode on its own.

Where this episode succeeds is finally letting Fred be the smartest character on screen. This is another strong episode for Fred’s character development, so those are two positives.

Fact – If it’s dog food, but isn’t Scooby-Snacks, Scooby is not having any of it.

Best Line – No, the old abandoned factory hippie!

Overall this is one of the worst episodes of Season 2 for me. I just find its out-of-the-box approach a miss and the overall plot drivers too far out there even for this series. This is a 2 out of 7.
