SEASON 2 EPISODE 20 – STAND AND DELIVER

In this one, a pirate-looking robber named the Dandy Highwayman charms all the women he runs into during his robberies. Even Daphne is in danger. Can the gang stop him before all the women are gone?

Art wise this episode is pretty plain. The backgrounds are still decent, but in the library scene, for instance, they didn’t even bother scribbling indications of the names of the books on the spines. Just this touch on even on the close-up shots would have shown a little more effort, but this also might have been a production pinch.

Story-wise the villain's power is a little strange (and his method fantastically simple), but it still keeps this episode interesting. This is also another episode where Daphne is the smartest one in the room. One thing the writers appear to have decided early on is that Daphne would get to be the catalyst when it comes to brains from time to time.

Fact – Donuts cause Scooby-Doo to have nightmares if he eats too many before bed.

Oddity – The Dandy Highwayman’s motorcycle seems to have an almost flying power. This is never explained or even talked about. Scooby’s dreams also reveal some stuff that is massively bizarre but does actually tie into the arc mystery. They are probably the most interesting thing about this episode.

Best Line – Do you mystery dorks have some kind of radar in that van that smells trouble? – Sheriff Stone

Second Best Line – Did mom just take off with some kind of road pirate?

Overall this episode is a letdown from how well the last one was written. I don’t want to say I disliked it, but it does feature my least favorite villain of either season. It does however show that Daphne and Fred are finally on solid footing relationship-wise again. We also get a subtle hint that Velma isn’t completely over Shaggy.
