SCOOBYDOO MYSTERY INCORPORATED : SEASON 1 EPISODE 16 – WHERE WALKS APHRODITE

SCOOBY-DOO MYSTERY INCORPORATED: SEASON 1 EPISODE 16 – WHERE WALKS APHRODITE

Love has come to Crystal Cove being spread by an evil villain named Aphrodite. At one point she uses the gang who is under her spell to try and kill Scooby-Doo with the Mystery Machine, so that’s who we are dealing with here. The only ones in the town that aren’t affected are Scooby and Professor Pericles. They just aren’t feeling it.

Influenced by Aphrodite’s odor power, Shaggy and Thelma fall back in vapor-induced love, which causes some awkwardness later in the show. The overall plot however is pretty great. In this one, the gang has to actually solve the mystery of who Aphrodite is and what her motives are through research and not just having the answers handed to them, not even by Professor Pericles, who is an ally in most of this episode rather than being his usual diabolical self. This one also strongly ties into the overall arc mystery of the entire series which is a plus writing-wise.

Oddity – One of the ingredients in a solution to break Aphrodite’s love spell is “ectoplasm”. A pretty awesome but out-of-place nod to GHOSTBUSTERS. This episode also has a cool nod to INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS and CARRIE.
This is the episode where we get introduced to one of the series coolest characters “Hotdog Water”, having said that, the introduction is very brief. It’s also one of the rare episodes where Velma briefly wears anything but her usual clothing.

Best Line – “Tears are just the beginning” – Aphrodite

Second Best Line – “I will not let my home be turned upside down by some (indistinguishable) hippie” – Professor Pericles
