SCOOBY-DOO MYSTERY INCORPORATED: SEASON 1 EPISODE 17 – ESCAPE FROM MYSTERY MANOR

The gang goes on a quest to find out what happened to the original Mystery Incorporated. After going into a tunnel beneath the college, they find themselves trapped in the underground Darrow Mansion. They hear a mysterious message telling them they won’t get out alive. Fred just totally ignores that though and gets excited that he is going to be taking on a master trap expert like himself.

I like that this episode starts out with Velma explaining to Angel Dynamite what is going on with their overall arc mystery in the series. They spend a lot of time at the radio station K-Ghoul with Angel throughout the series.

What I wish they hadn’t done in this episode was make it so much like the ridiculously pathetic horror flick SAW. The good news is that it is a tamer Scooby-Doo version. This episode also gives Fred a chance to show he’s not a completely incompetent moron. He is at least good for getting out of diabolical trap situations and he’s extremely loyal to the gang as a whole.

Most of this episode is dedicated to the overall arc mystery, but at this point, we still know very little about what the warnings from Mr. E are all about. For me, this episode isn’t all that great. Probably one of the low points of the season, but it does serve the purpose of at least letting us know that Fred’s not a total idiot and it does have a few decent funny moments.

The artwork in this one is also a bit of a drop-off from the several episodes prior.
