BLACK PANTHER (2018)

BLACK PANTHER  (2018)

Tagline: Hero. Legend. King..

(Action, Adventure, Wakanda Forever) [PG-13]

What happens now determines what happens to the rest of the world.

Growing up my favorite comics were ALPHA FLIGHT, HEX, SPAWN, and BLACK PANTHER. So naturally when AVENGERS had 2 movies without him I realized MARVEL had not only missed the boat, they were leaving out one of the coolest characters in the MARVEL UNIVERSE. Overall this movie felt a lot more like it should have been (along with DOCTOR STRANGE and ANT-MAN) in Phase 1, but nevertheless…. it’s here and crowds are showing up in droves. It’s the only Marvel movie in recent memory Logan specifically asked to see twice.

After how terribad CAPTAIN AMERICA CIVIL WAR was – it was nice to see Chadwick Boseman (as T’Challa) bring BLACK PANTHER the man and king to life. The back story on this one was quite a bit deeper than your typical MARVEL fare, involving an actual look into the villain this time and why he felt and did what he did. Having said that I liked Michael B Jordan quite a bit more in CREED than I did in this movie. After having his entire world turned upside down BLACK PANTHER must rely on his friends and his own sense of purpose as a king to overcome a threat to the throne and potentially the world. The ride is pretty spell-binding both visually and in its raw storytelling. Shuri (T’Challa’s sister) makes Tony Stark look like he’s been doing his tech with toothpicks. Packed with superb acting this movie comes across as not only a serious effort to bring the comics to life, but a serious effort to bring another great black hero to the movie masses.

Plot-wise after 2 viewings, I did pick out one hole that I am kind of wondering was cut from the theatrical release. I have now seen this thing 7 times. This is a first-day BLU-RAY purchase, so maybe I can look into that. Still, in theaters, BLACK PANTHER is a movie to run out and see on the big screen. Lots of action, explosions, heart, and power. the reason we go to the movies in the first place.
