A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET PART 3 : DREAM WARRIORS (1987)

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET PART 3: DREAM WARRIORS (1987)

Tagline: If You Think You're Ready For Freddy, Think Again!

(Horror, Fantasy, Primetime B...) [R]

Ain't gonna dream no more, no more. Ain't gonna dream no more. All night long I sing this song. Ain't gonna dream no more.

In this one, I get a strong feeling that the director and producers were completely ignoring that Freddy’s Revenge (part 2) even happened. Nancy (Heather Langencamp who is freakin awesome) has done her hair, and become a psychiatrist with a sort of dream twist. She basically winds up visiting a mental institution drawn in by a girl Kristen (Patricia Arquette, MEDIUM and STIGMATA) who can bring people into her dreams. Kind of like how Bruce Willis shows up in my dreams and wants me dead, in spite of the fact that I am a huge fan. Nancy starts to realize each kid at this institution who is a “survivor” has a special dream power they can use against Freddy (the jerk from the first two installments who wears bad sweaters and kills people right after making some sarcastic and sometimes funny remark).

A couple notes here.

1) This is by a long shot the best movie in this entire series. Just the sheer effort and practical effects are worth watching  (fans of old SINBAD flicks will freakin love the skeleton scene).

2) Even the beginning quote from Edgar Allan Poe tells you this movie means business and they waste no time taking us to dream sequences the first two installments just never achieved.

Great things about this movie include the 80’s soundtrack which Dokken did a stellar job on including the title track “Dream Warriors”.

2) Laurence Fishburne was an orderly named Max and he was still calling himself “Larry Fishburne” at that time.

3) Wizard Master is the D&Dish role-playing game featured in this movie. It’s not a real game but it does look like HARRY POTTER would have really liked it.

4)The effects on the sleepwalking scene, just watch it, it’s freakin out of control.

5) All of the therapy scenes were actually pretty well written.

6) Kincaid is probably the funniest character in a horror movie like ever.

7) There is a girl in the institution who is in love with becoming a movie star. Fortunately, in real life, she actually accomplished that.

For just the right amount of horror, effects, and superb visuals, this movie gets a solid 7 out of 7.
