WARM BODIES (2013)

WARM BODIES (2013)

I finally went to see this one last night. Oddly being a zombie movie. It’s also not bad for a lot of other reasons, so let’s get started.

First off we run into talking zombies. I personally haven’t seen a talking zombie film since RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, so for me, this was a nice spin on things. We also get emotions and taking on the memories of the brains you eat as the foundation for the love story that permeates this film. Having said that I think most audiences will miss what I feel is the main message here. While intriguing and eerily romantic the main thrust of the movie for me wasn't the 13 minutes of flashbacks and bonding montage. Embedded in the humor and trying to understand zombie culture and classes (corpses and boneies) is a deeper message about the importance of the simple emotions and enjoyments of life. Not going to give away too much here in case you are even more efficient at procrastination than I am, but this is worth your time.

For action fans, we get plenty of bullets to the head and creepy skeleton-like creatures and all the awesomeness you could want to set you up for WORLDWAR Z later this year. Analeigh Tipton (Crazy, Stupid, Love & Green Hornet) as Nora and Rob Corddry as M bring excellently written secondary characters to a great cast and already well-written and well-rounded main characters.

I will say this and I am only going to say it once. If you happened to like TWILIGHT. This might be the only zombie movie you will be able to handle. Just because the R in the movie looks a little overly Edward like in the movie and there is a love story. This does not by any means mean that you had to like TWILIGHT at all to have a good time here.

Overall giving this one a solid 4 out of 7.
