COSMIC SIN (2021)

COSMIC SIN (2021)

Tagline: One Threat Against Humanity, One Mission to Save it.

(Sci-Fi, Action, Tachyon Interference)

Vezza - Uh, Sir. What do they need a Q-bomb for?

Alex Locke - To jump-start a car... How the hell should I know.

In the future, our first contact with a new alien race proves they are extremely violent and have the ability to take over human bodies at will. Acting on top secret orders from the alliance a team of soldiers is sent to deliver a Q-Bomb capable of wiping out an entire civilization in an operation called Cosmic Sin. Fiona Ardene is the only tech familiar with the Q-Bomb which she treats like it’s a living thing. So she ends up part of the mission where they are joined by other humans fighting against the same aliens on their home planet.

First off, with this premise, you would think they would be able to pull off a coherent film here, no problem. Nope. That is not what goes down. The execution of this film is so strange and out of whack that even the simple premise I just gave gets so bewildering I am shocked anyone on the set even understood what the heck their lines were even about. Dr. Lea Goss is given some lines that explain the methodology of the alliance’s thought process but the rest of the script just really mucks it all up. This thing has spaghetti dialog in the worst sense of the term.

COSMIC SIN is set thousands of years in the future but looks like it takes place at a high school built in the 80s. and they are trying to mask that with blue, orange, and pink lights. The aliens themselves also look super janky like someone robbed a Spirits Halloween store and just started handing stuff out. I expect that in micro-budget films, but they literally paid Bruce Willis (THE FIFTH ELEMENT) $2 million for 2 days of work on this production. They also mistakenly put some close-ups of these soldiers flying through space to get to the planet they are attacking. Those scenes look wonky as heck. I am not sure why they just couldn’t put all these soldiers in a cool ship and teleport that thing? Having said that they did take time to make some of the sets look cool and the suit tech looks fine. The ships also look pretty cool, so at least they bothered putting in a little effort.

I do like Adelaide Kane (Reign) in this, but when Fiona says anything, she always starts out saying “Sir respectfully”, over time it gets a little bit tedious. Perrey Reeves is pretty decent in this as Dr. Lea Goss, but nothing to write home about given this script. She is best known for being Andy’s potential love interest in CHILD’S PLAY 3. Frank Grillo (BOSS LEVEL) plays General Ryle and just seems like he’s mailing this one in. Brandon Thomas Lee is actually pretty decent in this as Braxton, with just a few scenes where I felt he wasn’t focused. I don’t want to say that Corey Large did a good job acting, but his character Dash was at least likable. Corey is actually the producer of 7 or 8 Bruce Willis movies since 2020. Once again, I am not going to cry about Bruce Willis in this because of things that he’s been struggling with, and he remains one of my favorite actors of all time.

About 50 minutes into this thing we get some weird kind of dreamy-looking crap I don’t really know exactly what’s going on but these scenes don’t help this film at all. The ending is wildly lackluster and confusing. It should also be noted that 2 of the movie's main characters that are given the most lines are not even on the poster.

This is one of the few times where even my taste for things a lot of people just can’t get into just can’t enjoy what I am watching. Overall this thing gets a 2 out of 7.
