That's suicide! The Cube is raw power, it could destroy you both!
A war between alien robots comes to earth as both sides
search for the all-important “All Spark”, that will hardly be mentioned, or
needed at all as the series moves along. In this film we are treated to the
first serious look at the battle between Decepticons and the Autobots. Let’s
just say every man on the planet has seen this movie by now, whether they want
to admit it or not.
Michael Bay directs the film with sheer excellence right up until the final few actions sequences. Yes, unfortunately towards the end we are finding ourselves wondering who is shooting who. The camera angles are so close up it would be like saying you want a photo of someone, but just getting a tooth, rather than the whole face. Even given the barrage of “what the heck” camera angles, the rest of the film is pretty freakin fun.
While the true stars of the movie are the giant car-sized robots, I still have to take my hat off to Shia LeBeouf who plays Sam Whitwicky, the movies central character. I get that he’s had some personal issues, but I wish him the best. The Transformers themselves are freaking amazing for lack of a better term and there are NO disappointments on that end.
Highlights include an amazing freeway fight scene between Optimus Prime and Bone Crusher. Also pretty much any time Bumblebee shows up on screen. Megatron also literally flicks a dude across the street like he’s a pebble. Awesome I tell you, brilliant I say. Regarding the choice for leading lady, there are probably "100 actresses" lists online that would be suitable replacements for Megan Fox in this movie. While her appearance in the 2nd installment in quiet the improvement, Bay would have been better off handing the role to Michelle Ryan (Bionic Woman) or Kristen Zien (Kyle XY). To clear a few things up, Transformers does have a few cheesy moments that literally take you back to the 1980’s cartoon series, but it’s worth overlooking (Unless you don't remember how cheesy the cartoon was because you blocked it out of your mind).

The pacing overall was pretty spot on, but we do get several character introductions that seem to serve very little purpose in the end. Maggie and Glen for instance, seem to be crammed into this thing even if they are "doing things" it doesn't come across as essential to the plot.
Because of the frequent close ups in the movies battle scenes I have to knock this one down a notch from where I had it when I walked out of the theater back in 2007. I give Transformers a 5 out of 7.
