SCOOBY-DOO MYSTERY INCORPORATED: SEASON 1 EPISODE 3 – THE SECRET OF THE GHOST RIG
In this one Crystal Cove is being victimized by a ghost truck that generally runs people off the road. Fred’s dad is the mayor (which we found out in Episode 1) and is now running for re-election. Daphne’s parents don’t particularly love Fred so they set her up with the heir to a ladder company (who sounds like he could be David Spade).
One of my favorite parts in this one is when Daphne goes to the restaurant to meet this guy and the restaurant is called “The Bloody Stake”. This restaurant gets featured in several episodes. The town is called "The Hauntedest Place On Earth" because everything in Crystal Cove revolves around the numerous mysteries that Mystery Inc has had to solve in the area. Even cooler is how upset everyone in town gets every time they solve a mystery because it’s hurting tourism. Daphne orders the finger fries that actually look like fingers.
Oddity – this type of series has its craziness built-in, but there is one part in this episode where Scooby has his tongue tattooed with a map of all the restaurants in Crystal Cove. The only problem is that it is never seen or mentioned again. Fred also makes a trap that involves a shark in a shark tank…his dad doesn’t seem to think it’s over the top at all. The trap also does something at the end where you will be like (okay, that doesn’t even fit in this series). Even for Fred traps, it’s a bit of a stretch writing-wise.
Fun - I love the idea of a ghost truck, the mystery part of this episode is just flat-out great. In my opinion, this is a huge step up from episode 2.
Best line: “I am always here for you Fred, seriously right here.” – Daphne.
I give this one a 5 out of 7. Aside from a few strange things in the storyline this one is well done.
