SCOOBY-DOO MYSTERY INCORPORATED : SEASON 1 EPISODE 4 – REVENGE OF THE MAN CRAB

SCOOBY-DOO MYSTERY INCORPORATED :
SEASON 1 EPISODE 4 – REVENGE OF THE MAN CRAB

In this one a giant Man Crab attacks Crystal Cove beach during a volleyball tournament for Trickell's Triquid diet mixture (which is basically water). The gang must stop him and solve this mystery before the Man Crab steals all the chicks in Crystal Cove, except Velma for some reason who he captures but just tosses in the Mystery Machine.

In this one Velma is trying to get Shaggy to stop eating so much junk food, but ultimately this ends up not working out because Shaggy and junk food have a special relationship. The motive in this crustacean themed revenge scheme is a little shaky even for a Scooby-Doo episode but the elaborateness of the Man Crab’s plan and the underground network of tunnels involved are pretty freakin rad.

I did like that they finally decide to have Fred demonstrate his feelings for Daphne, once she goes missing. This episode also starts to expand the arc storyline involving Mr. E. For as early as it is, this is one of my favorite episodes just due to the nod to the original series and injection of humor at the right points.

Oddity – In several scenes the Man Crab looks huge and in others, he looks almost human-sized. The ending explanation of how the plan was executed is a bit off also trying to convince the audience that a huge crab suit could fit in a locker. However the locker looks pretty small on the outside, almost like it had Tardis-like qualities, but as stated earlier, it was pretty rad, so for me, it’s easy to overlook. It was also odd that the reason the Man Crab went after a bunch of other girls but skipped Velma (the only one that could solve the mystery) was never explained. Having said all this, these details are not exactly something I feel ruined the episode.

Fact – In this series, Daphne is allergic to crab.

Second Fact - This episode is the first time we see Dylan and Brenda, they show up in the series a few other times as a nod to the series 90210.

Overall I gotta give this one a 5 out of 7. It could easily have been a 7 out of 7 if they had left a few sentences and one scene out of the ending.
