SCOOBY-DOO MYSTERY INCORPORATED : SEASON 1 EPISODE 14 – MYSTERY SOLVERS CLUB STATE FINALS

SCOOBY-DOO MYSTERY INCORPORATED: SEASON 1 EPISODE 14 – MYSTERY SOLVERS CLUB STATE FINALS

This episode is pretty freakin nuts. Scooby has the flu but suddenly gets better just in time for the Mystery Solvers Club State Finals. It’s a gathering of mystery solvers from all of the united states. In this case, we’ve got Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels, Jabber Jaw, The Funky Phantom and Speed Buggy along with their respective groups. Only in this one, all but the sidekicks go missing and they are left to try and figure out what is going on with Lord Infernicus (a firey flying skeleton villain in a cloak).

This episode reminded me of how almost completely idiotic Jabber Jaw is when you look back on the character as an adult. Captain Caveman isn’t much better, but at least he has an Incredible Hulk-like attitude. His club also has a freakin rocket in it that lets him fly…so there’s that. This episode also heavily features Angel Dynamite (one of the series coolest characters as a DJ for K-Ghoul). In the series, Angel is voiced by the one and only Vivica A Fox (KILL BILL, INDEPENDENCE DAY). We also get to meet Principal Quinlan (voiced by Kate Higgins)who later ends up as the Mayor of Crystal Cove.

This is another rare situation in this series where Scooby solves the mystery. We also get some decent character development for Principal Quinlan who goes from a timid scared teacher to a confident bad-a-s in 20 minutes.

Best Quote - “The plan was to ship everyone off to Africa where there is a desperate need for teenage mystery solvers” – Funky Phantom

Cool – Every character in this episode is the retro version of themselves regarding the artwork. It’s a pretty awesome throwback to the Hanna Barbera cartoons of the ’60s and ’70s. Apparently, these characters were not chosen due to popularity, but rather the fact that they were all trying to solve mysteries on their own shows.

Facts – Speed Buggy as a show only had 16 episodes.

Second Fact - Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels lasted 3 seasons and had 40 episodes.

Third Fact - Jabber Jaw also only had 16 episodes. I think if they would have made the character smarter, it may have had more success.

Fourth Fact - Funky Phantom had 16 or 17 episodes.

Overall I really liked this one, and it gets points with me for being as outrageous as it is.
