ZOOMBIES (2016)

ZOOMBIES (2016)

Oh boy. So if you read this blog a lot you know that I have tackled my fair share of movies put out by THE ASYLUM. Sadly there are very few diamonds in the rough in that batch. ZOOMBIES is a rare exception. I am pretty sure this movie was trying to cram itself into the action horror genre or even ride the success of JURRASIC WORLD somehow, but ends up being far more of an action comedy than anything else.

As in a lot of other zombie movies, there is a virus outbreak in this movie that turns all the animals into zombies. The only problem is, they pretty much don’t even need to die first for this to happen. It just spreads through “EDEN” ZOO like the animals are just catching it by breathing. Every animal ends up a zombie, except elephants, because elephants are far too awesome to deal with zombie crap. That have stuff to remember and you can’t do that when you are dead. The movie all takes place in this one zoo and pretty much no one ever shows up to help. This was written into the movie because almost everyone’s phones are taken away in the first scene. The idea is that the security team and some regular zoo keepers are going to try and keep the zombie animals from escaping the zoo and infecting the world.

Here is where this movie gets a bit out of hand even for an ASYLUM movie. We’ve got zombie parrots, zombie monkeys, zombie lions, zombie koala’s, and best off all zombie giraffe’s. In one seen the effects are so bad that a dude gets bitten the neck by a rubber giraffe mask you would find at a Halloween store. Most of the effects are typical B-movie “dial an artist” CGI, but this movie mixes in a few shots of real animals and even stuffed animals, like they raided Gertie’s closet from E.T. .

I wish I could say there was an actor or actress trying in this movie, but it’s pretty void of stellar performances, making this thing even more ridiculously satisfying that it ought to be. If you are into B-Movies at all, this one needs to be on that list. Right now you can catch this on Amazon Prime.
