STRANGER THINGS : THE
UPSIDE DOWN (2016)
STRANGER THINGS takes place in Hawkins, Indiana in 1983. One
night on the way home from his friend’s house Will Byers suddenly disappears,
and now the town’s “maybe I should have stayed with Joyce Myers”, Sheriff Jim
Hopper, is going to try to figure out what’s behind it. And now you had better
watch out, because Steve, man, Steve freakin Harrington suddenly gets it and
he’s gonna have to step up. No, I am not kidding this time, he is really going
to have to get it together. Quite frankly so does Mike though, because that
dude promised Eleven, as many waffles as she wants.
Aside from being the season finale, one thing that is really
strong about this episode is the flashbacks related to Hopper and his daughter
who we found out earlier in the season has been dead for a few years. Nancy and
Jonathon are taking the physical route essentially trying to hunt down a creature
unleashed from the Hawkins Lab incident that started this whole thing. However
that isn’t the only issue here so you will have to just watch this series and
find out. Unless you have already, then of course just watch it again because
it’s awesome.
We find out what I already told you a few reviews ago that Mike’s mom is like a legit cook and that Mike like’s Eleven …like…like, like’s her. Hopper and Joyce get some much needed help from the lab to try and find Will…but will they be in time? Mike, Lucas and Dustin have fully bonded to protect Eleven and that just adds to how epic this show is. Dustin is also pretty tough, he picks up Eleven in one scene like she’s a load of bread.
Cinematography wise this episode is a wonder. We get fully immersed in the world of the Upside Down and holy cow it’s creep-tastic. The effects for the demogorgon are absolutely incredible especially given that at the time Netflix hadn’t really had a major hit on their own. By the time this episode is over you can fully appreciate how this show became a phenomenon.
Notes : For the actors and actresses playing certain roles, check earlier reviews in the series. Also in the graphic below it says movies. Just ignore that and pretend it says “episodes”.
