STRANGER THINGS : DIG DUG (2017)

STRANGER THINGS : DIG DUG (2017)

If you have not done so, watch Season 1 before reading this to avoid spoilers. This season takes place in Hawkins, Indiana in 1984. Will has been rescued after his vanishing a year earlier but is starting to see visions of the Upside Down. Meanwhile the rest of the town is facing a curious rot happening to farms in the area. Just what exactly in the name of “digging your own grave there Hopper?” is going on now?

In this episode Nancy and Jonathon are on their way to see a reporter to break the story on the Hawkins Lab and some other stuff. Dustin is having pet problems, and Lucas’s sister should never be given a full bottle of pancake syrup. Max is ready to accept the risk of knowing what happened in Hawkins last year. Bob ends up inadvertently getting involved in a huge game that takes up all of Joyce’s house made up of hundreds of drawings.

Meanwhile, Hopper, is in some serious trouble and the lab is starting to figure out how the creatures from the Upside Down operate. Eleven finds out the truth about her past and her mother at the hands of the labs former employees.

Aside from the storyline and superb dialog, the production crew does a fantastic job in this one making every set have an 80’s feel with little touches here and there, such as the Family Feud with Richard Dawson playing in the background in one scene.  There is even a pretty awesome nod to THE GOONIES utilizing one of Bob’s lines. Gotta freakin love Sean Austin.

While this isn’t my favorite episode of the season, it deserves high marks for excelling in flashback sequences and the interaction between Max and Lucas.
