BURYING THE EX (2014)

BURYING THE EX (2014)

Oh, man. I am pretty sure when this flick came out, it was only in like 1 theater here in Phoenix and it was only out for a week or two maybe. Normally this is exactly the kind of thing I go for, but I can see why this didn’t get wide distribution. It stars the late Anton Yelchin (STAR TREK, no not those ones, the new good ones by J.J. Abrams)  as Max. He’s a horror buff who is dating a girl who is a bit of a green freak (no that’s not a cut down, you wanna be environmentally conscience go for it). They get along okay but he decides he needs to dump her because she is cramping his style. Only that doesn’t quite work out because well the title and the promos for the movie give it away. Alexandra Daddario (probably best known for the Percy Jackson movies) is in the movie, but the lines they give her don’t do her much justice.

The movie also goes way out of its way to bash Christians in at least 1 scene which has gotten almost cliché and burdens this thing with more garbage writing it didn’t need. Ashley Greene (all the Twilight flicks) is pretty decent in this but even that isn’t enough to pull this one out of the “suck zone”.  Being a fan of older horror movies, I did enjoy some of the sets and scenes. The movie also doesn’t go out of its way to gore us to death. In its way, Burying The Ex does give nice nods,  ala MAMMOTH (2006) to classic horror flicks and b-movies in that both seem to respect the genre.

Even down to a cameo by the grumpy old veteran dude (Dick Miller) from the GREMLINS. Outside of that, this thing is a huge waste of your time. In fact there isn’t a single episode of iZombie that isn’t better than this.
