SPACE MILKSHAKE (2012)

SPACE MILKSHAKE (2012)

Oh man…this movie takes place on a sanitation space vessel where basically debris hits them and wipes out the earth in some whacky dimensional twist. Anyway, that isn’t really the big deal (earth is gone in a lot of future movies, it's fine). What is a big deal is that Valentina’s rubber duck has a double and one of them is like full-blown freakin evil. Also – there is another event on the ship that almost no one seems all that concerned about, but it involves the fact that we also have 2 Tilda’s (played by Kristin Kreuk).

The evil duck is mutating (GODZILLA VS BIOLLANTE style) and his name is Gary (voiced by George Takei). Now of course it won’t be long before he takes over the Universe. We get some decent (at times) comedic performances from Robin Dunne (Sanctuary / Defiance) and Billy Boyd (Peregrin Took from the LORD OF THE RINGS movies). I really like Amanda Tapping but I am not in love with her character in this. Perhaps the most shocking thing about this film is how the creators attracted such an awesome cast on such a low budget.

Overall this feels a lot more like something you would see on 80’s cable TV than it does an actual movie and for that, I have to lower the film's rating. What also doesn’t help is the wonky practical effects which I usually love. I think this thing set out to be a campy sci-fi comedy that was both fun and odd.

Maybe in time, it will become a hard-to-find cult classic, unfortunately right now (being fair) I can only say it’s a cool concept gone totally astray. It’s a terrible script victimizing some very talented actors and actresses. It is the anti-Fire Fly. My advice: unless you are on some sort of Amanda Tapping or Kristin Kreuk marathon on a dark and stormy night…skip this thing.
