VAMPIRES : OUT FOR BLOOD (2004)
This one is about a
detective who must be trying to get fired because he doesn’t listen and his
boss thinks he’s crazy. Vampires are luring people to parties and turning them
or just killing them if they don’t like them very much. The detective is bitten
and fortunately (or unfortunately) his wife knows all about vampires so she
helps him stave off becoming a full blown blood sucker. What is done really
well in this movie is the casting. If you have the chance you hire Jodi Lyn O’
Keefe (SHE’S ALL THAT, TWO AND A HALF MEN, PRISON BREAK), and you get Lance
Henriksen (ALIENS, PUMPKINHEAD, TERMINATOR) and you throw in Vanessa Angel for
good measure.
Now don’t get me wrong
this movie winds up very middle of the road but it does enough right to make me
recommend it especially for the inventive twist ending and the main vampire
looking more like a creature than a human which is always cool if you can get
it. The story line does drag a bit, but after not liking the main character
after the first few minutes, he did win me over and Jodi Lyn O’ Keefe as Layla
Simmons does make a really great vampire. This movie fails in the settings and
overall feel department and the storyline while simplistic doesn’t add anything
to this film until the very ending. I will say you can add this movie to your
horror o thon, but only as a backup. I give this one a 4 out of 7.
