THE TALL MAN (2012)

THE TALL MAN (2012)

Tagline: Fear Takes A New Shape

(Crime, Drama, Misdirection) [R]

I can almost guarantee a lot of you missed this creepy gem. I think horror comes in all different shapes and sizes and some of the elements of this film are more sickening than any slasher film out there. THE TALL MAN challenges everything we know about safety, who we think we can trust and grabs a hold of your “this is freaky” strings, and never let's go.

The movie revolves around the legend of THE TALL MAN, a mysterious figure that is stealing children from a small now-defunct mining town. There are some heavy twists in this and almost nothing is what it appears to be. Fans of Jessica Biel probably have seen this, but if you aren’t this is by far her most dynamic and diverse role to date.

We also get superb performances from Stephen McHattie (A LITTLE BIT ZOMBIE, PONTYPOOL), Jodelle Ferland (OFFICE GAMES), and Samantha Ferris (V, ALONG CAME A SPIDER, SUPERNATURAL). I am a bit surprised that this one wasn’t a bit more popular when it came out, but you can catch it streaming on some platforms right now. There are a lot of unsettling things about this film especially if you are a parent.

While not your garden variety mystery flick this one is worth your time. For its diverse characters, realistic depictions of dysfunction, and desperation giving this thing any less than a 5 seems like a disconnect from what we really get on screen.
