SINISTER (2012) - 31 DAYS OF MADNESS.....

SINISTER (2012)

If you me, you know that I am not a gore guy. Movies like SAW and HOSTEL not only bore me, I think they are just about as much of a complete waste of time as watching re-runs of EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND. I am also not a fan of truth core or paranormal horror, but this one is the rare exception. It this movie Ethan Hawk is playing a
crime writer who is basically way past his prime in the eyes of the public. He finds a cache of 8mm movies that appear to have happened at the house his family has just re-located too (imagine that). I don’t scare easily but this thing is just flat out psychologically jarring. One scene in particular still bugs me to this day.

Unlike most of the genre these days most of this movies success in the scare department is not driven by jump out at you scenes but rather powerful performances and though provoking mind torture. It’s also another one of those rare movies that kinda points out that you leave the demon killing to the demon killers. You don’t watch one murder on your old reel to reel and keep watching alone in the dark hoping the situation will improve.
This one is NOT gory, but certainly a film that is very successful in delivering the goods, creepy, your children might get you killed, keep a crap load of cops outside your house goods.

If you missed this a the theaters it is worth finding to stream or even buying then returning shortly thereafter. Seriously, much like the films within the film, SINISTER is not something I would want lying around the house….I am paranoid that way though.

I give this movie a 4 out of 7 although the usual rating definition below doesn’t really apply. Rating definition : VERY GOOD This movie leaves you with that feeling that although everything may not be okay, girls can kick butt and one man can save the world with either one bullet left in the chamber some special power he discovered 5 minutes ago. This movie is a good time and makes you wonder how many people you can tell about its awesomeness the next day at work.
