CHILD’S PLAY 2 (1990)
Andy (the super tough
kid from part I ) has been placed in a foster home with foster mom, horror icon Jenny
Agutter (TWILIGHT ZONE, AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON) and equally interesting foster dad Gerrit Graham (C.H.U.D. II, TALES FROM THE CRYPT), since his mother
was committed after backing Andy’s "my doll kills people" story. The Good Guy
toymakers rebuild Chucky to prove there is nothing wrong with their toy line.
In the process they bring Charles Lee Ray back to life and Chucky starts
another killing spree in an effort to possess Andy’s body or at least send him
into the insane asylum with his mom. The good news for Andy is that Kyle
(played by veteran actress Christine Elise) is a bad a-s teen that lives with
the foster parents and isn’t a big Chucky fan at all.
Unlike a lot of flicks
in this genre this movie is actually loaded with talent and comes across as a
very solid entry in the series. After CHILD’S PLAY actor Alex Vincent didn’t
bother doing much acting but did come back for CURSE OF CHUCKY.
CHILD’S PLAY 2 also features some pretty crazy killings one of which includes
the use of a bike pump and a ruler. One of the things I liked about this one is
that Kyle especially not only isn’t bothered at all that a possessed Good Guy
doll has kidnapped her, she actually enjoys pissing him off every chance she
gets.
Chucky to Andy “snap out of it, you act like you’ve never seen a dead body before”. Not exactly a dude you want to be “friends to the end” with. This could have gotten a 6 out of 7 from me, but if you go to statement is “gd” every five minutes, it means you have failed as a writer. Just one of the few things about some movies that piss me off.
For finding a clever way to get Chucky back on screen and bringing in some solid performances I have to give CHILD’S PLAY 2 a solid 5 out of 7, maybe not as original as the original but every bit as entertaining for horror fans.
