LEGION OF THE DEAD (2005)
Okay so just like MAMMOTH, this movie has a twin movie that came out close to the time this one did. That causes Google to think you are looking for it. The other film of this same
title came out in 2002, and that is not the one this review is about.
When an ancient tomb is
found in the US a group of what is basically students with a little bit of
background (and terrible scripts) on inscriptions try and figure them out.
Somewhere in the shuffle an old evil high-priestess Aneh-Tet awakes to try and
kill six people which she needs to wake the Legion Of the Dead. Its just like
the Legion of Doom in DC comics…only its mummies (no just kidding). She is
alive but still needs the blood of a virgin to stay that way I guess?
The effects aren’t
extremely awful but the action sequences are not much better than watching
people at the nearest grocery store fight over a box of cereal for an hour. Bruce Boxleitner (Tron) who plays the sheriff
is way way better than this.
Overall this movie felt like a cheap excuse to get Claudia Lynx (Miss World from The West Wing) to take off her shirt. The scenes with her like this seem so completely out of place and un-necessary it’s a distraction from what is going on in the film (sadly even that doesn’t help, like at all). Yet another disaster from The Asylum, LEGION OF THE DEAD is about as unremarkable as it gets. First time director Paul Bales probably shouldn’t get another shot behind the camera. His name however is attached as a co-producer to all kinds of crap.
