MY WORLD DIES SCREAMING
 (1958)

Tagline: Astounding shocker!

(Horror, Mystery, A Whole Lotta Love) [PG]

(aka TERROR IN THE HAUNTED HOUSE) this movie relishes in the fact that it is the first movie shot in Psycho-Rama. It even flashes goofy-looking images now and then hence the warning of "subliminal communication". This movie was not given an MPAA rating, but I think it would have been a [PG].

All I know is that death in its most hideous form waits for me at the top of those stairs.

This one revolves around a couple that moves to Florida straight into a freakin haunted house. Aside from the Psycho-Rama is not all that original. I wish there was more of a main plot here, but that is what's going on.

Acting wise, the main character, Sheila (played by Cathy O’Donnell - BEN HUR, PERRY MASON) I would say is a decent actress and probably got the role because she can scream her head off. Probably one of the better older horror movie screams I’ve heard regarding authenticity. One thing I should point out really quick about the cast is that there are quite literally only 5 people in this whole movie. Yeah…5. The males in the film are all okay but somewhat annoying (especially the caretaker who is given just way too much time on screen).

As Sheila realizes she’s been at this house before, the audience realizes she's a lunatic and madness unravels. Overall the film feels like just a ton of dialog.  The plot lines don’t make any sense (especially – what the heck is going on with these cars? ). Another problem is the un-even score that ranges from ultra-dramatic to Little House on the Prairie. For most people this movie will be more fun to mock than to watch straight faced, but some of the elements are decent and I actually liked the Psycho Rama gimmick.

This one gets a 3 out of 7. It's almost a 4, but not quite.
