6-HEADED SHARK ATTACK (2018)

6-HEADED SHARK ATTACK (2018)

Tagline: Don't Mix With the Six!

(Adventure, Horror, Putting Your Heads Together) [PG-13]

Note: This movie wasn’t given an MPAA rating, but I think some of the language would have had it getting a PG-13.

I thought hippies were calm people…

In this one, William is running a camp designed to help couples mend their relationships. It doesn’t take long before insecurities start to show, infighting starts, and the couples start to flirt with people they are not with. To top off the drama, there is also a 6 headed shark in the area hell-bent on devouring everyone it can find. The shark also has the ability to move around on land so nowhere is safe.

First off, when you look at this thing in the grand scale of all shark movies, it’s actually one of the better ones. In spite of getting flak from me for years, THE ASYLUM actually has some decent movies out as few and far between as they are. The studio is now better than several other dumpster fire studios putting out shark flicks. Yes, I am looking at you Wild Eye Releasing, Brett Kelly Entertainment, and especially you Green Apple Productions.

What I liked about this movie is of course the fact that we get a 6 headed shark. Just the idea is so stupendously fantastic that just the idea alone was worth giving this thing a shot. It also helped that I was doing a bunch of “Shark Week” movie reviews. The other thing is that the acting itself is actually not that bad. I liked the drama with the characters and some of the characters are worth rooting for. The pacing overall is pretty good even with a few lulls in the middle. I also liked that they added a bit of “human danger” in this. There are some sequences in this thing where we aren’t only worried about the shark. I also loved how ridiculous this shark is. It even bites one of its own heads off and grows a new one. Just bonkers, but I didn’t go into this expecting accuracy or for things to fit together. I also loved that they threw a bit of humor in here utilizing the soundtrack at just the right moments.

Out of the two multiple-headed shark movies I have seen, 6-HEADED SHARK ATTACK has a better cast than 2 HEADED SHARK ATTACK. Not because the cast is better known, just because they did a better job and were more committed to their roles. You can tell when a cast is actually trying and everyone in this movie is. Probably the best actress in this is Thandi Sebewho plays Mary. So far she has 13 different projects to her credit, both movies, and TV, but this was her second shark movie. She was also in EMPIRE OF THE SHARKS which was also put out by THE ASYLUM. We also get some solid acting from Brandon Auret who plays William. William is being threatened with divorce in the movie and handles juggling trying to lead the couple's camp after the shark attacks start and the emotional backdrop of dealing with an ending marriage. This was Brandon’s 3rd shark movie, but he was also in the sci-fi movies DISTRICT 9, ELYSIUM, and TREMORS 5: BLOODLINES. The chemistry between William and Mary in this movie is actually kind of cool to see. I also liked Naima Sebe’s role as Angie, (feisty but patient) and Nikita Faber as Daphne a conflicted flirt who has some deep guilt issues.

Where this thing goes sideways is in some of the plot points. This movie starts out with a scene from 1984 and then takes us to the present where no one seems to know there is a 6 headed shark in the area? After 34 years? There is also a part where the group looks like they are going to split up because William (the leader of the camp) thinks where the rest of the group wants to go is a death trap. Daphne is the only one that agrees to go with William (away from the rest of the group). However, in the very next scene, Daphne and William are right back with the rest of the group with no explanation as to why. The CGI like in most shark movies is rough, but it’s also expected on a certain level. Having said that, it’s hardly a complaint. This is a ridiculous shark movie and it does its job managing to be wildly entertaining.

I have to give this one a 6 out of 7. I have watched it twice now and enjoyed it, even more, the second time. It’s just big fun goofy nonsense.
