BIRDEMIC 2: THE RESURRECTION (2013)

BIRDEMIC 2: THE RESURRECTION (2013)

Tagline: Hollywood is about to take a beating.

(Horror, Thriller, Prehistoric Angry Birds) [R]

Note – This movie didn’t have an actual MPAA rating, but given the nudity, it would have gotten an R.

I wish Susan could've been here to see this bird skeleton. But she got a disease from that fish that Rod cooked.

In this one, Rod and Nathalie are in Hollywood where Rod’s friend Bill is trying to get a movie made and he wants Rod (who is now rich to finance part of it). After a day of hanging out on the town, a mysterious red rain begins bringing a bunch of prehistoric birds from the tar pits nearby to life. Can Rod, Nathalie, Bill, and his new friend Gloria survive another bird apocalypse?

First off, this movie has the same director and several of the same actors from the original BIRDEMIC movie. So that is how you know it’s total gloriously inadvertently hilarious garbage. The plot for this one is actually more well developed than the plot or lack of plot from the first film, but it manages to make way less sense. It’s like the production crew learned a few things, but the actors improved slightly but the writer didn’t learn how to write.

If this was an intentional comedy, it probably wouldn’t have been funny. Because it’s hilarious as it is, it makes this thing a bit of a cult classic. It didn’t take off as much as the original BIRDEMIC did, but it’s wildly entertaining. I kept having to hope the action sequences would stop with this 3rd grade CGI bird's action because I was losing my breath from laughing. I mean this thing has everything from inexplicable zombie birds to zombie cavemen and yes, for some reason actual zombies. I mean it’s bonkers.

One huge improvement in this movie over the first one is that after we get a fairly boring start to this movie we get a lot fewer scenes where Rod is just driving his car around. In the first movie, it seems like half of the run time is just Rod driving around. I will say the fact that the acting was slightly better made this slightly less awkward but funny than the first one in that area. The action sequences though are every bit as goofy. There are probably hundreds of college student films better than this.

As bad as Alan Bagh (who plays Rod) is in this movie, he is better than he was in the first one and he is actually involved in THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT Disney + series as an uncredited actor. Whitney Moore (who plays Nathalie) is a voice actress for YOUNG JUSTICE on HBO MAX. Chelsea Turnbo (who plays Gloria) did get roles for another 4 years after this movie but seems to have stopped acting as of 2017. This movie also features Carrie Stevens who plays this tree huggers wife. Stevens has been in Hollywood for quite some time and even had a 6 episode stint on Days Of Our Lives. Acting-wise though, I would be lying if I said this thing wasn’t just amazingly bad all the way around with the exception of Rick Camp (who plays Dr. Jones) who actually delivered his lines with confident and facial expressions that fit what he was saying.

Overall you really haven’t seen the best of the bad movies until you have seen either BIRDEMIC or BIRDEMIC 2: THE RESURRECTION because both of these outings were done with seriousness intended (and might have even had some sort of message to share), but you can’t watch it with a straight face.

I have to give this thing a 2 out of 7 on the merits, but on the entertainment, it’s definitely a 7 out of 7. It does end abruptly much like the first one which is pretty disappointing.
