SEASON 2 EPISODE 25 – THROUGH THE CURTAIN

In this episode, the gang is underneath Crystal Cove opening the portal to another dimension using 4 keys they found in earlier episodes. Hotdog Water (who apparently just likes taking big chunks of episodes off) attempts to hold Professor Pericles hostage while the gang enters the other dimension to attempt to kill the evil entity that has been controlling everyone.

Regarding the artwork, this episode is pretty out of the box. There is some simplistic but cool dimensional stuff, but parts of that other dimension look suspiciously like the southwest in the United States. There is also a water scene in here that looks like they used either real water filmed or some digital animation. This is about the only strong point for this one.

Story-wise for me this is a huge disappointment. This is another episode that feels like it was meant for another series (like FINAL SPACE), but they just decided to cram Scooby and the gang into it. I can see if this was a direct-to-video movie with a supernatural style Scooby-Doo! setting, but it doesn’t feel like any of this series was setting up for what we get and the horrible direction it takes. The one thing I remember about the first time I watched this is that I just couldn’t stand it. After a 3rd viewing now, that hasn’t changed.

Fact – Bloody hell, somehow Professor Pericles has a thing implanted in Mr. E’s spine that can kill him anytime. I thought only cats were that diabolical. This fact has Mr. E, actually hoping to die.

Oddities – Everything. This is just a really bad episode.

Overall I can’t stand this one. I think it’s one of the single worst Scooby-Doo! episodes ever made. I give it a 2 out of 7. Even the artwork isn’t enough to fix it.
