SEASON 1 EPISODE 7 – IN FEAR OF THE PHANTOM

In this one The Hex Girls are being hated by a phantom with like the raddest mech facemask in the history of phantoms, also the sparkliest cape…I mean that thing is out of control. To draw him out, Daphne poses as a member of the band and actually pretty much rocks at it. Meanwhile, Fred realizes he has feelings for Daphne for the second time this season. On top of all this Scooby decides to act like a jerk to Shaggy because of what happened on prom night in the last episode.

If you don’t like a tad bit of drama in your Scooby-Doo cartoons, then this is not the episode for you. Not only does Daphne pretty much goes “Dark Betty” (Riverdale reference) on Fred. Fred is basically losing his mind because one of his traps fails. As I mentioned earlier, Scooby is being a jerk for this entire episode. It’s really just kinda not your typical episode in the drama department.

This is not the first time we see The Hex Girls in a Scooby-Doo episode (they show up in Scooby-Doo And The Witch’s Ghost back in 99’), but I am pretty sure it’s the first time the Terror Dome gets mentioned. It’s a concert venue in this series.

Overall this episode is just pretty fantastic in the sense that it’s not afraid to bring some friction to the gang. It also features Vincent Van Ghoul briefly and it’s one of the few episodes in this series where Shaggy solves the mystery. The villain's motive in this one is also just really epic.

Oddity – During The Hex Girls concert, Velma is getting held up by some random dude. Kinda wonder if this was trying to say Shaggy is only strong enough to lift Scooby.

Fact – The Hex Girls Thorn, Dusk, and Luna are Velma's favorite band. Daphne is actually pretty good at singing, in this episode she dubs herself “Crush”.

Best Line – “What’s wrong with the Jones kid, he’s acting a little squirrely” – Sheriff Stone.
