STRANGER THINGS : THE MONSTER (2016)

STRANGER THINGS : THE MONSTER (2016)

STRANGER THINGS takes place in Hawkins, Indiana in 1983. One night on the way home from his friend’s house Will Byers suddenly disappears, and now the town’s “maybe I should have stayed with Joyce Myers”, Sheriff Jim Hopper, is going to try to figure out what’s behind it. Only now he is going to need some freakin help, because if the title of this episode is right…we are going to be full blown dealing with a monster soon.

In this episode Nancy’s mom apparently can’t figure out there is a dude in Nancy’s room, but remember, that mean casserole and she can pick locks, so it’s all good. Mike is feeling like crap because he yelled at Eleven, after she tossed Caleb around like a rag doll with her mind. This episode is also famous for introducing the un-written rule of law, “he who drew first blood”.  Dustin shows off his political skills trying to bring the group back together. Is Eleven one of them?

Hopper finally gets back to Joyce and tells her she isn’t crazy and we get a few more flashbacks including Eleven at the Hawkins Lab. Do not get between Eleven and her waffles and apparently in the 80’s you can get turkey for like .88cents. I don’t know, I would have to back up the BLU-RAY to get the details again. You could also buy whatever you needed to go monster hunting without being questioned. A few episodes back we discovered Steve was the jerk he seemed to be, well “The Monster” just takes that whole notion of the deep end.

This episode does a really good job of furthering the overall friendship between Will, Lucas, Dustin, and Mike by introducing a protracted underlying conflict. Mike and Dustin also have a pivotal run in with their bullies from school. Overall this is a pretty powerful episode in a series that just increasingly ups the stakes with each installment. As you get to know these characters this series just gets better and better.

Best Line In This Episode – “That’s like R2-D2 going to fight Darth Vader” – Mike.
