STRANGER THINGS : MAD MAX (2017)

STRANGER THINGS : MAD MAX (2017)

If you have not done so, watch Season 1 before reading this to avoid spoilers. This season takes place in Hawkins, Indiana in 1984. Will has been rescued after his vanishing a year earlier but is starting to see visions of the Upside Down. Meanwhile the rest of the town is facing a curious rot happening to farms in the area. Just what exactly in the creepy name of Hawkins Indiana is going on now?

Just watching the first episode of Season 2, I am pretty much just going into “awesome overload”. Outside of the opening police chase sequence introducing another character briefly, this one picks up with just as much momentum as the last one left off with. For one, I remember that damn game Dragon’s Lair and everyone pretty much sucking at it. I also remember actual arcades people used to hang out at and not just pass by in a mall. A kinder gentler Hawkins Lab is now under the care of a different Dr. (played by Paul Reiser and they are actually trying to help Will (played by Noah Schnapp) through some of the craziness he flashes in and out of.

There is a new girl in town named Max (played by Sadie Sink) and both Dustin and Lucas are kinda in love with her because she can skateboard and she is super good at DIG DUG. Joyce (played by Winona Ryder) is adjusting to new life with a new man named Bob (played by Sean Austin also known for  his role in THE GOONIES). Then we have Hopper who just lives in a creepy cabin the woods where he is hiding Eleven, because the last thing we need is a girl with super powers running around Hawkins fixing things.

Odd note- between the two seasons so far, the word trust gets mentions like 750 times. Everyone seems to have to “trust” everyone, like “trust” is for some reason a huge issue in Hawkins. Like reminding each other to brush their teeth. Nancy (played by Natalia Dyer) and Steve (played by Joe Keery) are still oddly together, apparently Steve’s big turn-around in attitude was enough for Nancy to keep things going.
Nancy is feeling guilty about Barb (we find out she died in Season 1)

Overall I loved the first episode of Season 2, but you did get a feeling that they had toned down some of the dialog in regards to being a bit more PC now that the show had reached mind-blowing popularity.
