TOP LINE (1988)
This movie was also called “Alien Terminator” for some crazy
reason. The main premise is that an author named Ted Angelo discovers a U.F.O.
in the Columbian jungle after using some Indiana Jones like smooth talking and
running around. After that pretty much every organization on the planet either
wants to kill him or torture him then kill him. At some point even an alien
freakin robot is after him.
This damn thing drags on and on and on before we finally get to
see anything interesting, practical effects
wise for its time, this one does a pretty good job. There is one part when we
see the final alien where the mouth isn’t moving but for all I know, these
aliens talk with no mouths…like Martice, from the (warning partly shameless
plug ahead) ANGELWOLF comic series or something. Overall TOP LINE has some pretty decent acting
so it wasn’t as difficult to watch as some of the stuff I’ve been reviewing
lately.
There is a pretty crazy scene where a bull takes on a
supposedly indestructible alien android. Just for that this thing got points
with me. I do wonder how Ted even if he was the dumbest person on earth didn’t
notice that one of these aliens, was an alien pretty early on. Overall this
thing gets a 3 out of 7 for me, but if there was a 3.5 it would be that. If you
can’t find TOP LINE for free somewhere, I probably would just skip it, but if
you are a movie buff and want to see what a TERMINATOR type movie might look
like if it was shot in Columbia, TOP LINE is at least watchable for the last 45 minutes.
