THE WARD (2010)
This movie is about a girl who burns down a farmhouse and is
taken to a mental institution for help. Once in the institution, she runs into
other girls who all fear a ghost that’s returned for a slice of revenge.
Quite frankly, there was almost NOTHING I didn’t absolutely love about this flick including some late mind-bending twists and John Carpenter’s wise decision to get Danielle Panabaker, Lyndsy Fonseca, Amber Heard, and the already legendary Jared Harris involved in this thing. Danielle (who plays Sarah) and Lyndsy (who plays Iris) have both made my top 10 favorite actresses lists in the past.

Anyway, the story does take some time to develop after the
first few shots, but after that, it hits its stride in that haunting Carpenter
style that is not only rich, but extremely well-acted. There isn’t anyone in
this movie not trying and the final result while short of a masterpiece is a worthy entry in your horror movie marathon.
How you view this film may depend on what you look for in a horror flick, this isn’t overly gory, but it is suspenseful with a few of the same elements, we saw in HALLOWEEN 2. I can also advise watching all the way through this movie, the ending is just freakin great.
I have to give this a solid 6 out of 7. Probably not Carpenter’s best, but way the heck up there.
