THE BRAIN THE WOULDN’T DIE (1962)

THE BRAIN THE WOULDN’T DIE (1962)

Tagline: It's madness, not science!

(Sci-Fi, Mad Scientist, Horror) [PG]

Note – This movie did not originally have an MPAA rating, but I think it would be rated PG or PG-13.

See how miserable her head looks on that metal pan? Well, apparently the actress that played the part of the head hated it so much they had to dub a few of her lines in because she refused to return for post-production. Her character has reason to be miserable also.

This movie revolves around a woman who gets all bent out of shape just because her boyfriend is a mad scientist who saves her head after a horrific car accident. I mean common…he was looking for a great body and everything (sarcasm, that part is actually very weird).

Honestly this flick is just freaking great. I am not kidding, this thing is just really really creeptastic. There are a few late surprises along the way and ultimately we kinda don’t really even care about the head, but the ride is nuts. If you are doing a horror marathon or 1950s sci-fi marathon this thing should be on the list.

We get a pretty good performance from Jason Evers as Dr. Bill Cortner but Virginia Leith (best known for ON THE THRESHOLD OF SPACE) as “the brain” looks just miserable and disinterested as you possibly can while getting paid to make a movie. Oddly the performance actually fits the film well so I am sure the producers were pretty happy.

Let me make this clear. Anyone ripping this movie hasn’t seen very many films from this era because it’s top-notch with a great ending. I give this movie a 5 out of 7.
