LEPRECHAUN’S REVENGE (2012)
(aka) RED CLOVER
This one is about a town
that made quite a bit of money off gold, but never had any of its own. They
lepre-napped a leprechaun and took it’s gold. They were later able to trap it
after it went on a killing spree, but after many years the leprechaun escapes
once more and is on killing spree part 2. This is mostly noted for being on the
SYFY channel but was produced by After Dark Films and has a loose affiliation
with Lionsgate Home Entertainment.
Some bright spots in this
are the subtle humor and even a reference to SHARKNADO a year before it came
out. Billy Zane who really creeps me out ever since his role in DEAD CALM is
fantastic in this and we have a Courtney Halverson sighting (GENERAL HOSPITAL,
THE HAMMER). If you don’t know who she is, count on her to be a rising star
soon. I also love movies that are self aware and this one is definitely aware… Karen
O'Hara: Who gets haunted by a leprechaun? What is that? It's the stupidest
thing I've ever heard of and it's happening to me. It's like I'm trapped in some
bad monster movie and I can't get out. And to top it off, this thing is
probably going to kill me anyway. Dax Spence: Hey, it's not going to kill you.
If this was a bad monster movie, it would kill everybody but you.
Anyway one of my
complaints about this movie is the Leprechaun itself. It looks a lot like the
something the first person to get kicked off FACE OFF would have come up with.
Having said that the
death scenes and some of the elements in this do bring out that sincerely
creepy feeling every horror movie should come ready to give us. This one also
features the very likeable Azure Parsons (2 GUNS, ASTRONAUT WIVES CLUB) as
Deputy Patterson. Add this unusually well done low budget flick to your horror
movie marathon.
