HORRORS OF SPIDER ISLAND (1960)
This movie is also known
as BODY IN THE WEB. It also ends up on a lot of TOP 100 WORST MOVIES OF ALL
TIME LISTS and early on it’s pretty easy to tell why. This horror flick like a
lot of B-movies that came out of the 50s and 60s has uneven pacing and just jacked
out over edited shots that look choppy as crap and even the often Hawaiian
sounding score sounds just out of place. In this movie some dude picks out of
bunch of women he wants to take to Singapore for whatever reason and they end
up crash landing in the ocean near this island. Once on the island they
discover a dead professor in a giant web but decide to stay at his place anyway.
Gary the leader of the
group is bitten by a spider and starts becoming one, but not all is lost as
another ship drops off 2 new guys who one of the girls decides to marry in like
2 hours…there there is dancing and this movie just gets all damn ridiculous. I
guess this was supposed to be provocative for its time and there are a lot of
women in it, but the bad dubbing and horrible acting made this really tough for
me to watch from a serious horror fan standpoint. So this one should not be
part of your horror movie marathon, but it is probably worth being watched if
you just like ridiculous badly acted and poorly scripted garbage from the early
60’s.
