DEAD SILENCE (2007)
If you are anything like
me ventriloquist’s always kinda creep me out even
though I took a class on how to do it when I was in 5th grade. This
is one of those flicks that I always saw on shelves and always saw on shows
where they give you the TOP 10 killer doll horror flicks, but I never watched
it till this month. There are a few decent performances in this one but the
acting is far out-shadowed by the spooktastic cinematography and well done
sets. Director James Wan is probably more famous for the SAW series (which I
can’t stand) and INSIDIOUS than he is this one, but the same creep factor is
evident here.
Nice - watch this scene,
back the camera away and the scene was in someone’s eyes, and then back away
from that and you are in someone else’s eyes shots are kind of laced throughout
this film as well as some other pretty cool camera work.
The story line is pretty
borrowed however from at least a few old TWILIGHT ZONE episodes only with a bit
more supernatural flare. Some kid makes fun of this ladies dummy and that
pretty much just sent her off the haunt you and your family forever deep end. Even
the ending is very TWILIGHT ZONEish but overall this is a great flick for your
Halloween line up. Not too over the top in the gore department but some creepy
effects that kinda trigger that heart rate and give you that overall sense of
“how is this freakin dummy so damn fast?”
I should also say that I
am not a huge Donnie Wahlberg fan but he plays a detective in this that turns
out to be about as helpful as the only person who seems to know what is going
on in THE STEPFATHER II is. Anyway Wahlberg fans rejoice.
I give this movie a 4 out of 7.
