BLOOD SURF (2000)
Okay if you have been
watching giant animals that kill you horror flicks for very long, it is highly
doubtful you missed BLOOD SURF, but just in case, here is the review. BLOOD
SURF is about a group of surfers that come up with one of the stupidest ideas
of all time. They want to purposely attract sharks to the area they are surfing
in with chum and then film it to make money. As if that idea wasn’t just flat
out idiotic enough they are also being chased by a gigantic 30ft salt water
crocodile that just kills everything it sees. In spite of how much this movie
gets ripped by would be reviews and fans, it actually does have a lot of the
horror elements people would be looking for in a film like this (dumb attractive
people, lots of blood and wonky effects). The cinematography is very sub-par
but the lighting is effective at times.
Acting in this is as you
would expect (nothing over the top great and nothing at the very bottom). Kate
Fischer (who plays Cecily and was also in the TV show ALL SAINTS ) does a
pretty solid job in this but appears to have fallen off the acting map in 2003.
In most places this movie is listed as a horror comedy but I didn’t find
anything really funny about this other than maybe that messed up plot line. I
do give the writers some credit for at least trying to give the characters a
little depth and throwing in a jealousy sub-plot and mildly interesting
characters.
I give blood surf a 4 out of 7, but this is not something you would
put in a horror movie marathon unless you got desperate.
