BLOOD LAKE: ATTACK OF THE KILLER LAMPREYS (2014)

BLOOD LAKE: ATTACK OF THE KILLER LAMPREYS (2014)

This movie is based on a lack of fish left in the lake leading to lamprey’s overgrowing and multiplying really fast, and then deciding to jack up an entire town using the waterways.

Apparently, this was the film made to get you to stay the heck away from Michigan. It’s also made by The Asylum which should make it clear that you are going to get the crappiest CGI available and a combination of extra bad writing companied with actors and actresses well past their prime. Oddly however this formula is actually not as horrific as you might expect and there are some pretty gruesome get killed by blood-sucking eels moments in this.

To its credit, the acting in this is so so (it does have both Shannen Doherty and Christopher Lloyd best known for BACK TO THE FUTURE). It also has a really PIRANHA circa 2010 feel to it as if they were trying to cram in as many nutty attacks in random places as they possibly could. In one portion of the movie, the main character is told that his son's bloody jacket was found but not him. We barely get any emotion out of him at all. So when I say the acting was so so, I am completely skipping over that funky moment.

Overall not much separates this effort from anything else The Asylum has put out but there is enough to make it watchable.

Having said that – do not add this to your horror movie marathon. This is a “just happens to be in my streaming queue” movie and not something you’d buy on DVD or BLU-RAY.
