BAD MOON (1996)
I actually found out
about this movie on a TOP 10 werewolf movies list online. Surprisingly I was
able to find the full movie on YouTube and I wasn’t disappointed. The premise
is fairly typical. Someone is a werewolf and that just isn’t allowed (that is
all that you need to know).
The wonkiest thing I
thought I’d see in this movie after getting the idea of what was going on was
the dog vs werewolf thing (the dogs name is Thor so…). Is the matchup even
close? Well that is all yet to be determined but dang this movie is just loaded
with decent scripting and the acting isn’t bad at all. I do like the “good man
turns into something evil and hates it” edge on this, but there are parts of
the origin story that I wish they had gone into. The director Eric Red is
mostly known for his movie THE HITCHER and 100 FEET, but he also co-wrote NEAR
DARK along with director Kathryn Bigelow.
At the very least this is
a middle of the road werewolf flick for hardcore fans with some a very
admirable transformation scene and some other cool elements including
cinematography and pacing. My advice, don’t get hung up on the dog vs werewolf
thing and watch this puppy (pun intended) on You Tube. Its worth your 120
minutes. I give bad moon a 5 out of 7.
