ATTACK OF THE GIANT LEECHES (1959)

ATTACK OF THE GIANT LEECHES (1959)

In this one, a county near a swamp is being terrorized by something other than crazed genetically mutated alligators (like in a lot of other swamp movies). As people start disappearing 1 by 1 a pesky state officer discovers they have a huge freakin leech problem (but it takes him the whole movie just about).

Not many actors or actresses blew me away in this one but Kent Clark was pretty awesome in his day. His most notable role was in SOUTH PACIFIC but he didn’t stop acting until 1998. The movie also stars Yvette Vickers as Liz Walker who is the cheating wife of a dude that treats her like garbage. If you have looked at Vickers career much you may have picked up that she was in one episode of the best TV shows ever made called ONE STEP BEYOND and ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN. We also have a Michael Emmet sighting. He plays Cal and was most famous for NIGHT OF THE BLOOD BEAST.

The cinematography in this one delivers that creepy black and white dread you want in a 50’s horror flick. The effects are not epic but okay for this type of movie and there are some leech blood-sucking scenes that are pretty chilling because the victims are so weak after that, they can’t get away.

Another great thing about this is the mention of dynamite. I love the fact that dynamite was always a possible answer in the 50s…heck yeah.

I have to give this one a 5 out of 7 just for bothering to try and give us giant leeches and a fair outing for 1950’s B-Horror.
